Rexburg Legacy

Mark Porter's family has been in business in Rexburg, Idaho since 1915. Mark's great grandfather started with a variety store, added a printing business and the local newspaper. Mark's father ended up in the variety store business and in the 1970's he and Mark's grandfather added office products to their services. Although Mark had not intended to be in the family business, he has overseen Porter's Office Products since 1998. In 2001 he bought out his father and grandfather and moved locations from downtown Rexburg to north of town where Porter's is currently located.

After attending college and becoming an accountant, Mark worked outside the business in sales until his father called him with the opportunity to run the office supply company. “The timing was right,” said Mark. He also saw a business that he knew he could do something with, so he joined the family business and continues to carry on the Porter legacy as the fourth generation. He has grown the business to serve East Idaho, Western Wyoming and Northern Utah.

Unique Service

Many people associate a blue cow with Porter's Office Products, but what the heck does a blue cow have to do with office products? “That's the number one question I get asked,” Mark said. He explained that when working with a marketing company to establish the Porter's brand it was recommended they have an animal to represent the company. At that time they gave their customer's candy with their deliveries and they were giving out a toffee named COW. They were known for COW's, and blue was their company color, so Blue Cow Service was created. “You don't see a blue cow, it's rare, that's our customer service proposition, you don't see it, it's rare (and we provide it).”

Despite increased on-line competition, Mark knows that Porter's provides something that can't be provided by the big companies in the business, and that's personal service. Porter's prides themselves on the customer experience and going above and beyond. Their deliveries include putting paper in the stock room for their customers and continues to include a candy treat. Porter's plans to continue to grow and spread their footprint throughout the region and now provides much more than just paper, they have about everything you can imagine that would be used in an office including janitorial supplies. Porter's wants to be your one stop shop.
